DIY Fairy Light Frame

Make Your Space Feel Like Home

Are you living in an apartment? Living in constant fear of not getting your security deposit back? Cause honestly, same. I’ve been living in my apartment for almost 2 years and only just barely had the courage to hang pictures last week. Apartment living should not mean sad, dingy, living.

Whether you’re in college dorms or you’re renting a house for your family, we all deserve to love the space that we live in. Hanging pictures and decorating can really make your house a home, and there are ways to do it without having to break the bank for frames, or break the walls. This is an idea I came across on Pinterest and I absolutely loved it!

DIY Fairly Light Frame Supplies

Battery operated fairy lights - I opted for the lights that have a smaller battery pack so it would be easier to conceal.

Empty 11x14 frame - I used an empty 11x14 frame and just took out the glass. You can also use a hanging frame and wrap your lights around each piece.

Small plastic clothespins - This pack has such cute colors or you can buy some that are neutral colors.

Hanging Strips - Command Strips are always my go to, you can buy them at almost any store or on Amazon.

For this DIY project, I decided to wrap the lights around an empty frame. I started by taking my frame and deciding which orientation I wanted it to be. You can do both landscape and portrait, and luckily it is really easy to change up. I chose landscape because that’s what I had room for on my wall.

Then, I took the lights and before getting started, I stuck down my battery pack to a spot where it wouldn’t be visible, on the back side of the frame. I also wanted to make sure that the on/off switch was in a convenient spot so that I could easily get to it to turn the lights on and off.

I wrapped the lights around my frame in a zig-zag pattern. When I was done, I taped down the very end of the fairy light strand to the back of the frame.

To finish it off, I used my plastic clothespins to clip the photos onto the lights! I used the command strips to hang the frame on my wall and it worked perfectly with the battery pack. It's super cute and I absolutely love that I can change my Persnickety Box prints out quickly each month!
