DIY Fabric Photo Mat
If you’re looking for a super easy and stylish way to make your framed photos pop, I’ve got the perfect DIY for you: a fabric photo mat! This simple project adds a custom, handmade touch to your favorite picture frames, and it’s a great way to match your decor or give a special gift a little extra love.
And trust me, once you see how beautiful your Persnickety Box prints look in your new, custom frame, you'll want to make one for every room!
What You’ll Need:
A piece of card stock paper (cut to the size of your frame's opening)
Your choice of fabric (make sure it’s a little bigger than the card stock)
Permanent glue tape
Scissors
Your photo (Preferably your Persnickety Box print because, let’s be real, they’re the best quality!)
A picture frame
Create Your Fabric Mat:
Step 1: Cut Your Card Stock and Fabric
First, grab your card stock paper and make sure it fits snugly inside your frame. Choose a fabric you love (this is the fun part!) and cut it so that it’s slightly larger than the card stock. You want to leave enough room to wrap the fabric around the sides of the paper, about 1/2 inch.
Step 2: Trim and Glue the Fabric
Add a few stripes of glue tape to one side of the card stock and flatten your fabric on top to adhere. Flip it over, wrong side up, and cut off the corners of the fabric—this will make it much easier to fold the fabric neatly around the edges. Be sure not to cut off the card stock corners, but cut as close to the paper corners as you can!
Step 3: Neatly Fold and Glue
Fold the edges of the fabric around to the back side of the card stock and glue tape them down. This will give your mat that polished, professional look!
Step 4: Add Your Photo
Now for the best part—adding your photo! Take your photo and place it right in the center of your fabric mat. Use a little glue tape to hold it in place.
Step 5: Frame It!
Finally, pop your new fabric photo mat and print into your frame, and voilà! You’ve just created a gorgeous, personalized piece of art for your home.
